Alesandro Becchi viewed the domestic environment not as a static showroom, but as a fluid, living ecosystem where furniture could reshape human relationships, comfort, and freedom. The Anfibio reflects this design ideal - and formed apart of his "Moving Between States" exhibition. It is not just a sofa with an added bed mechanism, but a place where transformation was the core ideal. Taking its namesake both from the Greek amphi - mean dual - and bios - meaning life, his intention was to broaden the horizon of how we exist at home. Manufactured with with thick, non-deformable polyurethane padding and an internal steel frame- its revolutionary design saw the Anfibio showcased in the monumental MoMa ‘Italy: The New Domestic Landscape’ exhibition in 1972 - as well as awarded The Compasso d'Oro in 1972. This particular model retains its original fabric - including sheepskin mattress.
