Selene dining chairs designed by Vico Magistretti for Artemide 1968. Vico Magistretti’s Selene chairs are considered the most innovative moment of Italian design. As the space race waged between Soviet Russia and the U.S.A, it brought with it the technological advance of injection moulded fibreglass. Strong, lightweight and resistant to heat – it became the material of choice for space suits. In 1969 Magistretti adopted this technique into his design practice by creating the Selene chair - made entirely from a single sheet of thermo-moulded resin. The first of its kind, the Selene is widely sought after, and on permanent display at MoMa New York, V&A London and the Vitra design museum Germany. These Selene chairs are pre-patent chairs, and hold significant historical value and providence.
