ZIG-ZAG CHAIRS BY GERRIT THOMAS RIETVELD
Zig Zag Wire Chairs by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, 1970s. Designed in 1934 the Zig Zag chair along with the Red-Blue Chair in 1918 represent the innovation of the Dutch De Stijl movement. Commonly built with cherry wood, these alternate iron chairs were never mass produced; however it is likely Cassina created these prototypes during their close 1970 collaboration with the Rietveld Schröderhuis in Utrecht. Featuring welded iron wire and angular form these stackable chairs fit seamlessly into one another.
